The Shaldon Singers new uniform- getting ready in the Victoria Hall before our May 2025 concert

Who are we?

Shaldon Singers is a friendly, non-auditioned choir of about 60. We are always looking for new singers to join us - you will be made very welcome.  We sing a wide range of classical music and give two concerts a year, in December and May. We support local charities with a retiring collection at each concert. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 7.15 to 9 pm at St Peter’s Church in Shaldon, TQ14 0DB.

If you are interested in joining Shaldon Singers, please contact membership secretary Anne Gore (01626 866815) for information, or email shaldonsingers@gmail.com. An ability to read music is an advantage, but more important is enthusiasm and a commitment to attend rehearsals.
Membership costs £85 a year, and two free taster rehearsals are offered to anyone wishing to try singing with us.

CHORAL WORKSHOP 2025

Saturday 5 April
10-5pm
Mendelssohn's Elijah

Over 80 singers from all over Devon gathered for our come and sing workshop on Elijah on 5 April in St Peter’s Church.
Renowned musical director Brian Kay was an inspirational conductor, guiding the choir through the work with humour and enthusiasm, much to the enjoyment of the singers.
Outstanding accompanist Peter Adcock, and bass soloist Tim Bagley, who sang the role of Elijah, contributed greatly to the experience. Chris Morris was the narrator of the action in between the choruses.
An informal concert performance ended the day, open to family and friends who formed an appreciative audience.
A big thank you to everyone who took part and made the day a success.

SPRING CONCERT
An appreciative audience enjoyed the Shaldon Singers concert on Saturday 17 May at St Peter’s Church. Conducted by Tim Crompton, the choir was accompanied by the Shaldon Sinfonietta, led by Anna Cockroft. The soloists who took part – Josie Walledge, Jonathan Lucas-Wood and Tim Mirfin were excellent and the coming together of the choir, orchestra and soloists resulted in a performance of Haydn’s Creation that could well have been enjoyed at a London concert hall!
The retiring collection was in aid of the Alice Cross Centre and raised £282.67 to help to upgrade the fire/smoke system. Local historian Viv Wilson gave an inspiring talk about the centre. Many thanks to our generous audience and others who donated.
Shaldon Singers return to rehearsals after the summer break on Thursday 11th September. Anyone interested in joining the choir will be made very welcome. For information see www.shaldonsingers.co.uk. Our next concert will be on December 6th with music by Parry, Taverner and Todd and will feature Handel’s Zadok the Priest.
